William Cox Jr.-A memorial service will be at noon on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Shiloh Baptist Church for William Cox Jr., who departed this life on Monday, March 28, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Cox was born December 7, 1928, in Ensly, Ala., the son of William and Ollie Curry Cox, having resided in the area since 1929. He was employed with Republic Steel Corp as a mill wright for over 43 years. he served honorably during World War II, as a petty officer in the U.S. Navy, on the WSSR Hawaii. He attended the Antioch Baptist Church, marched on Washington, D.C., in 1963, and organized District 26 Negro Labor Committee. William married Margaret Raines on April 2, 1948. He leaves to mourn his passing 3 sons; Gary James (Victoria) Cox of Columbus, John (Marita) Cox of Campbell and Howard Porch of Dallas, 2 daughters; Belinda Marie (Willie) Oliver of Youngstown and Sherry Cox-Calloway of Warren; 2 sisters, Ida Adams of Youngstown and Catheryne Whithers of Melbourbe, Fla., and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son Randy G. Cox; 2 sisters, Bernice Miliner and Gloria Cox; and brothers-in-law Claude Miliner, Jimmy Columbus Withers and Herman Adams.
