Shirley Yvonne Owens

Shirley Y. Owens-Memorial services will be held Friday October 16, 2015 at 2 pm at F. D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home, Inc.  for Mrs. Shirley Yvonne Stennis Mason Owens, 79, Youngstown, who departed this life on Sunday October 11, 2015 in Guardian Health Care Center. Mrs Owens was born August 15, 1936 in Struthers Ohio, a daughter of John & Goldie Snipes Stennis. She graduated from The Rayen School in 1954 and graduated from YSU  receiving her Bachelor of science degree in Medical Technology, and worked  for St. Elizabeth Health Center, retiring in 1996 in her field of study.  She was an accomplished musician. She attended the Dana School of Music for classical music. She was a member of Price Memorial AME Zion Church and was in their choir and was an organist for the church. She enjoyed traveling, music,and shopping. She leaves to cherish her memory a son: James E. (Patricia) Mason of Pittsburgh, PA,  2 grandchildren: Mrs. Erika Hazlewood and Charles Dorset, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, a cousin: Loretta White who was her caregiver, and Roberta Berry and 2 nieces: Dorenda and Saundra Cobbins,  a host of cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Delores Cobbins, 2 aunts: Adele Johnson and Madie Gibson, 4 uncles: Robert, Otis, William, and Louis Snipes. Friends may call at 2 pm at the funeral home.
