Ms. Phyllis L. Payden, 61, of Columbus, transitioned to eternal life on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family.
Ms. Payden was born December 19, 1962 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of James Payden Jr. and the late Iola Gray.
She was reared in Port Huron, Michigan, but returned to Ohio and graduated with Cardinal Mooney High School Class of 1981. After graduating and becoming a mother, Phyllis relocated to Royal Oak, Michigan, where she reared her children; Marqueshia and Phillip.
Phyllis found her passion in Environmental Services, working as a supervisor for over 30 years. As a devout woman of faith, she maintained a strong relationship with The Most High God.
Along with practicing her faith, Phyllis enjoyed music, good food, fashion, traveling and spending time with her family. After making Columbus, Ohio her home, she traveled often to spend time with her grandchildren, ultimately being deemed "Traveling Nana." As an entrepreneur- Phyllis traveled selling her holistic products and accessories. She took pride in educating and uplifting her people. Her outgoing personality and tenacity for success kept her going. Full of zest for life and a desire for healing, Phyllis will truly be missed by her loved ones.
She leaves to cherish in her beloved memory: her father James (Lorene), her step father; Joseph, two children; Marqueshia and Phillip, six grandchildren; Kierra, Kayla, Phillip Jr., Josiah, Za'Kari, and E'ziah, eight siblings; John, Cassandra, James (Lynnell), Lugenia, Howard (Karena), Sharlene (James), Jonathan and her bonus sister Maxine, sixteen nieces and nephews. twenty-one great nieces and nephews, two special cousins; TaBranda and Lavinia, and a host of family and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother lola Gray, her grandmother; Mabel Payden, her uncle; Frank Payden, her aunt; Ardene Venable, and her nephew; Bradley James.
A homegoing celebration service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday February 9, 2024 at Grace Evangelistic Temple Church A visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. before the service.
