Leroy Wallace- Leroy Wallace departed this earthly tabernacle at 2 am on Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Woodlands of Shaker in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He was born December 4, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of Sloan and Belle Fant Wallace. Leroy resided in Youngstown, Ohio for 88 years then moving to Wesley Chapel, Florida for a year. The last 2 monthe he resided in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended South High School and received his GED some years later. As a young man, Leroy was employed at Carnegie Steel Mill. Later he worked for Columbia Iron and Metal in Girard, Ohio as a diesel crane operator for over 33 years. He was elected as a grievance chairman for the union representing the workers there and settling their concerns and disputes. In his early years he sang in his church adult choir but his heart and soul was singing with the Son's of Harmony with one of his best friends, the late Rev. Lonnie Simon. He was a member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohio F and A.M. Lodge #59. Leroy had an artistic ability to create various sketches often signing them with his excellent penmanship. Leroy is survived by his devoted wife, Doris (Watkins) Wallace of 70 years, marrying on March 9, 1945. Together this union produced 3 children; Carol (Fred) Watson, of Youngstown, Elaine (Dennis) Banks of Wesley Chapel, Florida and Dwain Wallace who is deceased. His grandchildren are Stacey Banks-Houston of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Monica Watson, of Cleveland, OH., Darrin Watson, of Cincinati, Oh., and Dr. Noel Wallace of Lafayette, Indiana. His pride and joy was four great-grandchildren, Ronald Thomas Houston, Justin Ross Houston,Lauren and Ivonka Long. His first born niece, Joan Kitchen was his phone companion for hours on end. He also leaves other family and friends who will mourn his lost. He was preceded in death by his parents. his son Dwain, and his siblings, William Henry, Edward, Raymond, and Dorothy Orr. Viewing for Mr. Wallace will occur on Monday November 2, 2015 at 11 am one hour prior to the service at 12 noon at Price Memorial
AME Zion Church at 920 Dryden Ave in Youngstown, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements were entrusted to the F. D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home, Inc.
