James L. Morris– Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday at the Temple Emmanuel SDA Church, 105 W. Indianola, in Youngstown for James Leon Morris, 77, who entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
James was born Feb. 22, 1941, in Little Washington, N.C., son of Edward and Mary Morris.
He was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, played football and basketball and was nicknamed “Moose” because of his tenacity. He was a graduate of Easton College earning a degree in Medical Therapy and attended Youngstown College (YSU). He worked for over 20 years in the health industry, and was a serial entrepreneur creating a property management portfolio, a coffee shop, and a candy store/gameroom.
He was member of the Temple Emmanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church since 1977, and was a board member, a basketball coach and a youth leader.
He was very active in the Youngstown community. He started the Little Penguins little league football team in the mid 1970s, lead the Cub Scouts during the same time period. He won numerous awards and was recognized in his lifelong quest to serve the people of Youngstown. He has also earned recognition as one of the best foster parents in Ohio.
He leaves the love of his love, Linda R. Brown; his children, Mark Irvin, Tameka (Bernard) Quarles and Judy (Andrew) Frith; grandchildren, Bernard W. Quarles, Andrew Frith Jr., Stephen Frith and Jordan Frith. He also leaves many loving family members and friends including the Turnage and Hall families.
Preceding him in death were his daughter, Heather Morris and brother William “Bob” Morris.
Friends may call from 11 to noon at the church.
