Mr. Fred Douglas Smith, 89, of Youngstown, who transitioned this life on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 8:10 a.m.
Mr. Smith was born on August 1, 1935 in Spring Hill, North Carolina. He was the third Child born to Mance and Catherine Smith in Spring Hill, North Carolina. His Christian journey began as a young child attending Sunday School and Church with his Mother and siblings at the Mt. Gilbert Baptist Church.
Fred attended the public schools in Spring Hill, North Carolina and later enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving four years he was Honorably discharged. He migrated to Youngstown, Ohio and was employed by General Motors until his retirement.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife who he married October 24, 2000, Betty Taylor Smith; his stepchildren, Marcella Croft, Ike (Jenita) Henry and Shawbie (Jessica) Henry; his sister, Faye (Bishop Charles) Wright; his sister in law, Brenda Wright; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren ; his nieces, Gwen(Rufus), Cathy(Alphonso), Gail(Henry); his nephews, James, Jr., Charles,Jr, Frankie, Daryl(Jenise) and Fred, and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mance Smith, his mother Catherine Marrow( his brother, James,Sr.; his sisters, Pecolia and Susie.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Sterling Green his caregiver, and Buckeye Hospice staff, Crystal -RN, Kristine - LPN, Mimi - Caseworker, Tay - Aide and Chad the Chaplin.
A prayer service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 1, 2025 at the Chapel at Tod Homestead Cemetery. There will be a visitation with the family from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the cemetery chapel.
