Evelyn Louise Hammond 88, of Youngstown, peacefully transitioned from this life on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Omni Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Hammond was born July 30, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee to Harry Owens Sr. and Odis (Johnson) Owens.

Evelyn was a graduate of Manassas High School in Memphis, Tennessee, and was employed by the Tyco Company in Moorestown, New Jersey, before moving to Youngstown. Once relocated to Youngstown, she worked for Dr. J.O. Corbett in his dentist’s office.

She married William David Hammond on April 28, 1979, and remained married to him until his passing on August 27, 2002.

On July 7, 1980, Evelyn became a faithful People’s Chapel Church of God member under the leadership of her friend and pastor, Rev. Irma Corbett. She was the church treasurer, van driver, and musician. Evelyn also ran the food pantry ministry.

Evelyn’s passions included her love for fishing, gardening, and playing the piano. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading the bible, and crocheting.

Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories, 2 nieces, Debra D. Lovelace of Biloxi, Mississippi and Cynthia D. Mabone of Youngstown, Ohio. Two stepdaughters, Darlene Brown of Cleveland, Ohio, and Kathy Hammond of Youngstown, Ohio. A stepson, Ronald Woods of Trussville, Alabama. Great nephews and nieces whom she reared, Corey Riley, Raheim Wright, Tamra Mabone, Jiaro Monserrat, Jose Monserrat Jr., Derrick Monserrat, and Jalyn Monserrat; her special friend, Ann Anthony; Two goddaughters, Lisa Harris and Ebanae Gilmore, along with a host of great nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Hammond, her parents; her brothers , Harry Jr., Ernest, Thomas and Herbert Owens; her sisters, Barbara J. Moore, Laverne Mabone, and four nieces, Linda R. Riley, Venus Q. Monserrat, Brenda L. Owens, and Pastor Mary E. Wright Gwendolyn Fish; her nephews, Ernest Owens Jr. “Capp”, Frederick Owens “Punchy”; one great niece, Jolita M. Baker. Two great great nieces, Jordan M. Baker, and Amya M. Monserrat.

A homegoing celebration will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday April 5, 2025 at Peoples Chapel Church of God there will be a visitation with the family from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the the church.
