Doris J. Rivers-Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Union Baptist Church, for Mrs. Doris J. Rivers, 91, Youngstown who departed this life on Thursday, August 31,2017, at Greenbriar Health Care Center.
Mrs. Rivers was born October 12, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of John W. and Cornelia Duncan Black. She was a high school graduate, then on to work at Ravenna Arsenal. She worked for the Youngstown City School system, and was a poll worker.
She was a long time, faithful member of the church and the Nurse's Guild, and Usher board. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was the Past Grand Officer of Benevolent Grand Chapter,., former member of Queen of Sheba #78, member of Miriam Chapter #76, Moab Court #30, Heroine of Jericho, Martha Council # 1, Lady Knight, Gleaner Court #1, Daughter of the Sphinx, Order of Eastern Star, McGuffey Council #5, Daughters of Jerusulem, and was a Daughter of the Elks Lodge. She leaves to cherish her memory, her 2 sons; Isaac W. Black Sr., and Alvin Rivers Jr., both of Youngstown, a sister Doretha Hudson of Cleveland, a grandson Rev. Isaac W. (Charlene) Black Jr., whom she reared of Youngstown, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; Eugene Black, a sister; Johnnie Mae Graves, Uncle and aunt, Ted and Dolly Gillison, and a niece; Mary Robinson. Friends may call from 10 am to 11 am at the church.
